Installing Mark Logic Server on Ubuntu 8.10 Wed, 04/22/2009 - 09:46 — macnod Mark Logic server is, unbelievably, not supported on Ubuntu 8.10. However, the server runs just fine on that distribution. The following installation instructions might save you some time.

  1. Create a temporary mark-logic directory somewhere and cd into that directory
  2. sudo apt-get install rpm
  3. sudo apt-get install alien
  4. wget http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/l/lsb/lsb-base_3.2-22_all.deb
  5. Get the appropriate Mark Logic server RPM file from here: http://developer.marklogic.com/download
  6. sudo dpkg -i lsb-base_3.2-22_all.deb
  7. sudo alien --to-deb MarkLogic-4.0-4.i686.rpm
  8. sudo dpkg -i marklogic_4.0-5_i386.deb
  9. sudo mkdir /var/lock/subsys

Don't forget to start the Mark Logic server once you've installed it:

sudo /etc/init.d/MarkLogic start

To configure the newly installed server, you can connect to the administrative interface here: http://name-of-your-host:8001

That's it!
