So, as I was reading the book, Leadership and Self-Deception, I realized that the concepts being taught are already taught in the gospel. For instance, the way we get out-of the box is to be forgiving to others - realizing their humanity and desiring to be better towards them since they are human and have similar hopes and desires as we have. It's the ability to allow others to be people and realize that they are going to make mistakes, but the only way to leave the box towards them is to forgive them. To not hold grudges, which leads to "in-the-box" behavior. When we don't forgive, we are in the box - we desire to find ways that they aren't forgivable and that we are justified in holding our view of them in our minds. Like the book points out, it's much easier to rely on the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and forgive, rather than go through the effort of justifying ourselves by carrying the burden of their mistakes.
